Remember having competitions to see how long you can keep your hands in a bucket of freezing cold ice? I think I did them both at birthday parties and in science class (if anyone knows why we would do them in science please let me know, my memory is lapsing)
Ready...Set...Go!
at first it's not so bad, you feel like you could do this forever, then you hand starts to tingle, and it feels almost warm, pretty good, enjoyable, and then it goes numb, and you can't really feel it anymore, and you just keep your hand in that bucket of water because that's what you think you're supposed to do.
This is when either the science teacher, or your parents intervene and tell you that you have to take your hand out or it's going to fall off or something like that, so you take your hand out of the water...and then comes the pain, the stinging, burning, throbbing, pit of your stomach pain and you really do feel like your hand is going to fall off, but eventually it stops stinging, maybe not as quickly as you would like it to, but it does eventually stop, at least from what I remember.
